Important Information on COVID-19

27.07.2020 - Article

International flights

At this time Pakistan is permitting international flights having previosuly suspended them. From the main international airports in Pakistan return flights to Germany are offered by commercial airlines. However, the current international flight service may be changed at very short notice. This is due to high safety standards for incoming flights to fulfill in order to prevent further COVID-19 infections. To enter Pakistan, travellers are obliged to install the COVID-19 app, PakPass, on their smart phone. Travellers have to show installation and registration to the respective airline during check-in.

Information on entry requirements for Pakistan

According to Pakistani health authorities 14-days of quarantine are obligatory for all travelers arriving to Pakistan. This applies for all travellers irrespective of whether or not the passenger is showing COVID-19 symptoms. All passengers have to be prepared for medical checks upon arrival. More details can be found at the website of the Pakistani Ministry of National Health Services.

Extension of validity of visas

Pakistani authorities have announced on 12 June that all types of visas issued to foreign nationals, who are currently in Pakistan, will be considered as valid until 31th August 2020.

Restrictions on movement in Pakistan

In Islamabad Capital Territory as well as in the provinces Balochistan, Sindh, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa different levels of restrictions of movement are in force. These vary from province to province and may be relaxed or stepped up on short notice depending on the current occurence of infection. Restaurants and shopping malls remain closed, groceries and drugstores are open.

Temporary travel restrictions to the EU

In line with EU decisions, Germany introduced travel restrictions for entries from outside the Schengen area on 17 March 2020.  All corresponding entries from non-EU-citizens and citizens of non-Schengen states by plane or ship will be affected. Entry will be possible for German citizens and other nationals with a German residence permit. While restrictions for some countries have been eased on July 1st, they remain in place for now for travellers from Pakistan.

Consistent with these persisting entry restrictions and bearing in mind the current COVID-19 developments in Pakistan, the visa sections of the German Embassy Islamabad and of the German Consulate General Karachi remain closed until (provisionally) 31 July 2020 and are not accepting any new visa applications. Exceptions may be made if the applicant can demonstrate the existence of compelling reasons that justify entry under the current rules. In these cases please contact: visainfo@isla.auswaertiges-amt.de (Islamabad) or visainfo@kara.auswaertiges-amt.de (Karachi)
You will be informed immediately on this website when this situation changes.
If you have received an earlier appointment confirmation, the Embassy will provide an alternate day as soon as visa operations will return to normal.
For German passport applications please contact: konsularreferat@isla.diplo.de (Islamabad) or konsularreferat@kara.diplo.de (Karachi)
