Transit visa
Frankfurt Airport
Pakistani nationals in many cases require a visa even for the international transit area of a German airport. You can apply for a transit visa as set out below.
Which visa is required?
Full Schengen visa
A transit visa will only allow you to stay within the transit area of a German airport. Transit areas are not available at every airport. In general, only Frankfurt Main and Munich airport have transit areas that are open 24 hours. For other airports, or if you transit between airports in Europe, you will require a regular Schengen visa. Please refer to the guidance for tourist, visit or business visa.
No transit visa required
No airport transit visa might be required for holders of diplomatic passports, family members of an EU or UK citizen or people who hold any of the following:
- a residence permit of a Schengen state, a non-Schengen EU state, Andorra, Canada, Japan, San Marino, the United Kingdom, the United States of America or a Dutch Overseas Territory;
- a visa for a Schengen state, a non-Schengen EU state, Canada, Japan, the United States of America or a Dutch Overseas Territory, for travels with that country.
In your own interest, please take care when preparing your application
Include in your applications all the documents listed below, in exactly the way described and in correct order.
If you neglect to provide any document, your application can be immediately rejected. At the least, you will introduce delays as processing your application only starts once you have submitted it in full.
The Visa Section can at any time request any additional document from you. Your application is only complete if you have complied with the document request.

Required documents
| 1 | Your current passport and copies of all previous passports and visa | Original of current passport and copies of pages 1 and 2 Previous passports in full copy Your passport needs to be valid for at least three months after the end of the desired visa. All passports must be signed by the holder. Unsigned passports are invalid under Pakistani law and cannot receive visa. You can only be considered for a multiple entry visa of longer duration, if your passport has a long additional validity. If any of your previous passports has been lost, provide a police report with English or German translation. If you have received any visa on paper (not in your passport), please also provide a copy. |
| 2 | Videx visa application form | Signed original, printed from the system. You must fill out your application on the Videx online application system, then print out and sign. |
| 3 | Two biometrical Passport Photos | Original Please follow the examples of passport photographs The photographs must not be older than six months. One photograp must be stapled on the application form and a further photograph attached with a paper clip. |
| 4 | Health insurance policy | Signed original and one copy A list of health insurance companies in Pakistan that comply with Schengen standards can be found at the link. Your minimum insurance cover must be € 30000. Your policy must cover all Schengen countries not only Germany. |
| 5 | Flight reservation | Copy / printout Please provide confirmed round trip tickets covering the duration of your stay. |
| 6 | All previous visa refusals | Copy Checks are run against the system for any refusals. Failure to disclose a refusal contitutes fraud and is an automatic grounds for refusing the visa. |
